This past week my family and I all went to see the new movie The Jesus Revolution, a movie about the great awakening in California during the late sixties.
One scene in the movie where they are being baptized, made me think about my own baptism. In the movie, of course they show a dramatic scene where the main character Greg Laurie goes under the water but appears to go into the very depths of the sea, even though they are only in waist deep water, sees the light and surges up to come out of the water.
My own baptism was special to me as my son, who I had baptized earlier in the year, baptized my wife and I on the beach in the Manatee river under the De Soto Cross in Bradenton Florida. We went for a hike through a park that Pastor Mark Alt had told us about.
As we hiked through the trees it came to an opening at the river where a huge cross had been erected to mark the landing point of Spanish explorer De Soto. My wife and I looked at each other and decided this would be the perfect place to have our son Blake, who was 13 at the time, baptize us.
It was special to me as I had just baptized Blake earlier in the year. My wife and I had accepted Christ into our lives but had never made the public profession of our faith by being baptized.
Although our baptism was special to us, I have always looked for that dramatic change in my life, like the one shown in the movie. That Saul of Tarsus moment where a blinding light hits you and at that moment you know your life will never be the same.
Have any of you wished your salvation moment would be over the top and undeniable? I am sure most of us have looked for that blinding light but don’t fret as once you have accepted Christ, blinding light or not your life will never be the same as it was before.
I know this is the website where you will find my music, but without my faith I wouldn’t have my music, regardless of whether it is a gospel tune or a song about a whiskey drinking preacher.
So come back each week for the blog as you may never know what the topic may be.
