I broke out some vinyl while installing a new power conditioner and rearranging my studio.
You just can’t beat the sound of a needle dropping onto the vinyl. That mild hiss that let’s you know some real music is about to come through.
The choice for the evening was something I had forgotten about, Dan Fogelberg’s Phoenix album.
Whether you are a guitarist, singer, songwriter or just some one who loves well written, superbly arranged, and just bad ass guitar playing. This is a must grab and one that I don’t think gets near enough accolades.
Growing up I know all of us were more into Page, Beck, Randy or Van Halen and more than likely looked past great arrangements and playing like the playing on this song and album, which was too bad.
As I have gotten older I have learned to listen to music for the total package not just the shredding guitar but the overall arrangement and layers but this album has the shredding guitar too!
Also as I have gotten older I have been more in tune with what it takes to write great lyrics, I have always been a Jackson Browne and John Prine fan for their broad and creative lyrics but Fogelberg is way underrated.
Not only did he write the songs but he played the acoustic and electric guitars as well as the electric and acoustic piano and organs
Take the time to just listen to everything on this album but especially the title track, it just rips from beginning to end!
